How to S.T.O.P. mindfully!

One of the questions I get asked a lot from people who are new to mindfulness is around techniques people can use during stressful situations to help them calm down. They may find themselves yelling at the kids, arguing with someone they really love or maybe they are just mentally beating themselves up over a recent mistake.

These people don’t want the long winded answer about how they should take up a formal meditation practice or even enrol in a mindfulness course - they just need something to help them now! Something to give them a little peace in an otherwise frustrating day! I usually tell them ‘You just need to STOP!’.

Anyone Can Be A Confident Public Speaker!

What is it about public speaking that can reduce even the seemingly confident person to a quivering mess? Don’t Wait For Happiness - It’s Waiting For You!

Why is it that we are always waiting to be happy? Happiness is a choice, don't wait for things to be perfect, choose happiness now. Focus on what you do have rather than what is missing in your life. Instead of thinking ‘I’ll be happy when I have paid off the mortgage’, think isn’t it great that I have a roof over my head and protection from the outside elements. Focus on how far you have come, rather than thinking how much further you have to go. Know that you will never have this moment in time again, so enjoy it while it lasts.

Intention..... life is about choices!

I first started using intentions a couple of years ago when a few special events didn't quite go to plan. Once after a fight with my wife about running late for dinner, I was left wondering "how did that happen?". We were meant to be going out for a lovely dinner together, our first night out without the kids in ages, and now we aren't even talking to each other. Instead of waiting patiently and thinking, "it's okay if we are little late" or "isn't it nice the effort she is going to for our big night out" I got caught up in my own internal monologue "I can't believe she is running late again" "why is she doing this to me". Something I had been looking forward to for weeks was now in tatters because I wasn't focusing on the right thing.

When is it the right time to start....

I think the answer to this should always be a resounding NOW! I think the fact that you are even asking the question means you probably know the answer, but often we are looking for an excuse or justification in why now is not the right time!
